Windows 7 Start Orb Changer

Windows 7 Start Orb Changer is a freeware from door2windows that allows you to change your start orb/button with just one click in Windows 7.

How to use:

  1. Run the tool as administrator.

  2. Click Change.
    Windows 7 Start Orb Changer
  3. Select the start orb and click Open. You can get some orbs from these links: 1, 2

  4. The Windows Explorer will now restart automatically and you will be able to see the new start orb/button which you chose. Click OK.Windows 7 Start Orb Changer

To restore the original start orb click Restore.

You can expand the advanced settings by clicking the arrow at the bottom right corner of the window:

Checking the Add Shortcut In Context Menu option will add an Start Orb option in the desktop context menu so that you can access the tool with one click:

Checking the Add Option In Context Menu option will add an Set As Start Orb option in the context menu of all PNG and BMP files so that you can change your start orb with one click:

    Uhhh.. I’m getting that failed to load bitmap too. And I DID RUN AS ADMIN. I can’t get it to stop. I’ve tried everything, can someone tell me how I can just get this piece of crap program to go away. I’ve deleted it from my windows files but it’s still popping up with that error. Maybe that was dumb, but someone please help

    I got it. Ran as admin and it worked. But that’s what I’ve been doing, so I don’t know what was different about this time.

    hallo..i runed it as admin and it loads like it suppose to do..but why my navigation button didnt change?..im using ultimate 64-bit..help me plis.. :) )

    Problem on Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit with SP1
    Works ok but every now and again the mouse cursor disappears in a windows explorer dialogue box. have to log off to get it functioning again , very annoying
    Tried  the replace by editing resources method but to no avail

    Doesn’t work on 7 Premium 64bit SP1 . All it does it make my orb disappear altogether . Does not replace it with anything . Oh well, after 5 days of trying to customize my desktop, I have not come across anything that works, and that is free. If nothing FREE works, I’m CERTAINLY not going to pay money for something that would be just as likely not to work .

    i know a way to recover the background. its pretty simple, just open the task manager (you can do that by pressing ctrl+alt+del and clicking on “start task manager”), select new task and then type: explorer, this might bring your background back but the default orb maybe will be back again too =/

    This is a corrupted file when i dl it it show me 0 size in the dl process but the output file is same as given here also it doesn’t work after i run it on my win 7 sp1.

    Don’t download this crap it contains malware as reported by SuperAntiSpyware. It also disabled browsing with Firefox6 (can browse on other browser except firefox keeps loading the website thus you can’t browse).

    This file runs on expstart.exe

    Neither patching memory or editing resources work :(
    Windows 7 SP1 64bit
    Patching memory says it was a success but does not work
    Editing resources says “Access to the path ‘C:Windowsexplorer.exe’ is denied. 
    I am running as admin and I have admin rights…

    Two problems occur (running as admin) On startup I get a message “Access to the part ‘E:WindowsW7SOCicon.ico’ is denied” the thing is that their is no icon file in that folder. In fact the folder is 100% empty. Hitting OK dismisses this message. I then select my icon and it gives a second error:  ”A generic error occured in GDI+.” Not sure what that means except that something bad happened.

    Help please. This used to work!

    for ppl who get expstart.exe error msgs right after login, here is the solution:
    1.restore ur start orb with this 4.0 version 2.log off and then log back in to check if the error is still there or not 3.if not, change ur start orb with 2.6 version (same tool) 4. then your done :)

    You need to be a administrator to do it, or run the program as administrator.

    can’t get this to work in my guest account in win 7… works fine in admin account… in guest account i installed by running as admin, works, but reverts back when system is restarted… any help?

    seemed to work ok for me win 7 32bit only thing is i get 2 images states.. not the
    pressed image im running dpi 125 bit

    worked perfect all 3 images show on win 7 64bit and yeah right click and run as
    admin also.. i tick modify resource over memory the memory one didnt seem
    to stick on reboot

    This is a great little bit of code! works perfectly as intended. Just stick to the 54×54 icons arranged top to bottom on a 54×162 bitmap image and you can change it to anything you wish! I changed my djs’s computer to our company logo
