How To Change Your Logon Screen’s Windows Branding Logo in Windows 7

This tutorial is a part of the How To Edit Your Logon Screen in Windows 7 (Tutorial Series)

  1. Type CMD in start menu search box or run and press Enter.
  2. Type the following in Command Prompt:
  3. TAKEOWN /F %windir%\Branding\Basebrd\basebrd.dll && ICACLS %windir%\Branding\Basebrd\basebrd.dll /GRANT Administrator:F

  4. Go to C:\Windows\Branding\Basebrd (Change C to your system drive) and make a backup of basebrd.dll.
  5. Download and run Resource Hacker. Download Link

  6. HostGator (Use coupon - door2windows)

  7. Open C:\Windows\Branding\Basebrd\basebrd.dll in it. (Change C to your system drive)
  8. Click on the Action menu and select Replace other Resource ….
  9. Click Open file with new resource… and browse for the bitmap that you want to use as the windows branding logo. Download Sample Logo
  10. Type BITMAP in the Resource Type box.
  11. Type 120 in the Resource Name box.
  12. Click on Replace.
  13. Click on the File menu and select Save.
  14. Restart your PC.
  15. Go to C:\Windows\Branding\Basebrd (Change C to your system drive) and delete basebrd_original.dll. Now logoff or switch user to see the new windows branding logo.

    Instead of typing all of that, you can copy and paste by right clicking on the Title Bar of CMD and go to Edit>Paste and press enter

    Plus, it doesn't work. Well, it works with the sample logo, but that's all. Even if you edit the sample and save, it doesn't work. Even if you keep the same dimensions. Doesn't work using .jpg, or .bmp.

    Download this: http://www.howtogeek.com/downloads/TakeOwnershi… and run the first reg key in the file, then right click basebrd.dll and select take ownership, now it will let you do what you will with it.

    ok but i did everything it said now my branding logo is gone after i do last step delete the file or if i leave the file alone and restart i still get the original branding logo can you tell me how you did yours thanks

    The command that you type in command prompt in the tutorial is to take ownership.

    It sorta works. You can change it but… You still have the “Windows 7″ there what you had will show through that. I’m trying to find a work around for that.
