Ok, here’s a tip for those who are getting the “generic GDI+” error.  Move the .bmp or .png containing the orbs you wish to change to OUT of any system directories (i.e. Windows, System32, SysWOW64, etc.)  Somewhere like the Desktop should be fine. Then browse to the .bmp or .png with Orb Changer and let ‘er rip.  This worked for me.

Thank you Kishan and Jeff for an awesome utility.  Ignore all the whiners….

I LOVE this utility, but can I make a suggestion for an improvement?

I would love to see a function that would allow you to create a list of start images, and have the program cycle through them at regular intervals, like how windows can cycle through backdrops, but with the start button. I can’t imagine it’d be too difficult to do, either. Just a suggestion. Love it!

    Thanks…

    Nice work..

hey this thing is giving error in my pc when i turn on my pc a dialong box arrive and says bitmap ’6801 error

  • Boldriter

I downloaded it and ran it. Doesn’t make any error messages or anything but when I change the 3 states are blank in the program window and there is no start button showing on my taskbar. I hit restore and it goes back to normal win 7 start button, I’m using several start orbs from your suggested link. What am I doing wrong? I am doing this under my named account but I am administrator also.

Please add the posibility to change the Start Button for the Classic Theme too! I know, it must be somewhere else than the other orbs, but once you find it, it should be simpler to change, as it isn’t even animated!

  • Bricrook

When I use it I get the message ” FAILED TO UPDATE BITMAP ”
I have to click on OK about 5 times for the message to go away.

I still get my orb though.

  • Bricrook

EDIT-   I get the Failed to update message every time I reboot.

  • Ruffy

can’t change my orb.  Always get the error:
A generic error occurred in GDI+

  • Duarte Lourenço

    Hi!
I also got the GDI+ error once!
Then everytime I try to use it I get the “update bitmap” issue!
Dialog says “Failed to update BITMAP ’6801′:24″ and then goes up to ’6811′.
    Windows 7 Home Premium x64
    Thanks for any help!

  • Displeased

got the failed to update bitmap error continuously and the orb never changed so I switch to edit resource mode…which damaged my explorer.exe, had to restore backup with command prompt in order for my explorer to work again =/ no idea how this happened and if i’m the only one it’s happened to

  • Wilhelm

I ran this as an administrator, and it wiped my desktop and all its icons and replaced it with that of the administrator I ran it as. Fix your software.

  • Kbphoto615

I have used this start orb changer, and ever since using it Explorer.Exe crashes randomly and restarts. Is there any way to fix this? When it restarts, my orb is back to default. It’s annoying as even once it crashes and restores the orb to default, it still continues to crash. Randomly. Any help would be greatly apprecaited!

Ahh it seems my comment will probably be useless. The guy who had been helping people on here hasn’t reponded in some time now. I doubt he will. :/
